County League

Bruff 4-11

Glin 3-10

We made the long trip to Bruff last Thursday evening for Round 4 of the County League. Even though we were far from full strength on the night, our boys gave a great account of themselves. Bruff led the way in the scoring stakes from the off and surged into an early lead reeling off a number of points and a goal. We responded with points from wing back Pádraig Costello and forwards, Shane Culhane, Darren Sheahan and Michéal Sheehy. At half time Bruff led by 8 points. Things were to get worse for us early in the second half when Bruff scored two more goals. At the 40th minute, we were 15 points behind. However, the team never threw in the towel and our revival began with points from Karol Geoghegan, Sheahan and Culhane. Costello finished off a fine run with a coolly taken goal and shortly afterwards, Sheahan converted a penalty, when Jack Fitzgerald was taken down as he prepared to shoot for goal. With less than ten minutes left we were really piling on the pressure and two further well taken points by Sheehy and Pádraig Horan brought the gap down to six points. Bruff responded with two converted frees but with minutes remaining, Culhane stole through our opponents defence and clinically lobbed the Bruff goalkeeper. At the final whistle, the scoreline read Bruff 4-11 Glin 3-10. The result may show a four point defeat but the performance in the second half was a great credit to our team.

West Junior B C'ship

Glin 0-5

Athea 0-7

Conditions were very testing in Ballyhahill last Sunday evening as we met Athea in the first round of the West championship. Scores were at a premium throughout but Michéal Sheehy was our most threatening forward and kicked over two fine points during the first half.  David Horan struck over another point to leave the half time score, 0-4 to 0-3 in favour of Athea.  The driving wind and rain continued to increase in the second half and both defences were very much on top. Sheehy slotted over a free in the 45th minute to leave just one point between the teams. Athea kicked over two points of their own to stretch their lead. Seán Lyons got one back for us from a long range free.  Unfortunately we weren't able to convert more of our chances in the second half and the game ended in a two point victory for Athea.
