Feile Quarter Final

Monaleen 1-3 Bruff 3-7

Monaleen gave a tremendous effort but were ultimately overpowered by Bruff in this exciting match. Played on a very blustery day, with the ground softened by heavy rain, it was always going to be a tough day for hurling.

Bruff started strongly but found the Monaleen goalkeeper Conor Carew in fine form as he made a number of fantastic saves to keep the game close.
After surviving the first few minutes of pressure, Monaleen found themselves only a point down, then had their own spell of attacking pressure with Paul Ross scoring a fine point from open play. David McMahon, Niall McGrath and Conor Deegan kept things very tight around the middle of the field, but they had their hands full with some powerful opponents to tackle. Ronan Lyons broke a ball down around the middle of the field, passed down the right side to Paul Ross who delivered a ball in to the square, where it was met by Eoghan O'Driscoll who doubled on it beautifully, sending the sliotar to the back of the net. However, the Monaleen lead was short lived as Bruff broke through for a goal two minutes later. At half time the game was level, 1-2 to 1-2.

Early in the second half Monaleen scored a point to take the lead, but it was to prove to be their last score of the game. The half back line of Micheal O'Hanrahan, Jason Aylward and Nicky O'Dwyer battled hard throughout, but the onslaught never relented and shots and scores began to come Bruff's way.

The game ended, the players had lost this match, but their pride was intact after leaving all their effort out on the pitch.
