County League

Glin 1-7

Kilteely-Dromkeen 0-4

Our 2nd County League game of the year was a rematch of last year's county final against Kilteely-Dromkeen on Sunday evening.

We started well, with James Wallace fielding a pin point pass from Darren Sheahan before slotting over the bar. Kilteely responded in kind, taking advantage of the wind to kick their first point of the game in the 7th minute. James Wallace kicked his second point after being set up by Mark Culhane. Mark then kicked over 2 points from placed balls after marauding runs through the defence from Jack Fitzgerald and Darren Sheahan yielded frees. Sheahan was a constant thorn in our opponent's side during the first half period with many fine kick passes and our backs were particularly tight with McMahon, Sweeney and John Wallace impressing.

Scores were at a premium during the second period, the rustiness of both teams at this stage of the year was evident. Mark scored two further points and Stephen Shine drove on from the half back line to land a fine point. As the game drew to its conclusion, Brian O'Donovan made a great run through the Kilteely defence and struck a trademark left foot shot over the goalkeeper into the back of the net. Kilteely got two points in the closing stages to leave the final score 1-7 to 0-4 in our favour. Many thanks to the Kilteely-Dromkeen club for the tea and sandwiches afterwards before our long drive home.

Limerick Senior Footballers

Well done to the Limerick senior footballers on their 2-10 to 1-5 victory over Clare in Newcastle West last Sunday. Our own Kevin Moore made his first competitive appearance for the team in the match and contributed a point during the first half. It was the first time in 16 years since a Glin player lined out for the Limerick seniors in the league or championship. The player on that occasion was Noelie Mulvihill who played in the 1999 Munster championship semi-final game against Cork. Survival in Division 3 is now in Limerick's own hands as a win against Louth next Sunday will avoid relegation. Come on Limerick!
