Senior Hurlers

Commiserations to Shane O Neill and his team following yesterday's disappointing loss to Kilmallock.

A defeat is always hard to take especially in a final but this team have given us some super memories and no doubt many more in the future.

We came into the game unbeaten and also as All County hurling league champions but unfortunately on the day we came up short.

In very tough conditions we decided to play against the very strong breeze and kilmallock capitalised on that pushing into a seven point lead at the break.

We rallied early in the second half with early scores from Kevin Downes and David Breen however we could not get those crucial scores to close the gap.

Two excellent saves from the  Kilmallock net minder in the closing minutes to deny Adrian Breen and Peter Casey and a 21 yard free from Shane Dowling which was deflected over the bar was the last act in a disappointing performance.

No doubt it is hard to take but will also spur the lads on for next years championship.

NA PIARSAIGH: Padraic Kennedy; Michael Casey, Kieran Breen, Cathal King; Kieran Kennedy, David Breen, Ronan Lynch; Pat Gleeson, Alan Dempsey; James O'Brien, Kevin Downes, David Dempsey; Adrian Breen, Shane Dowling, William O'Donoghue. Subs: Kevin Ryan for James O'Brien (18mins), Peter Casey for Pat Gleeson (45mins), Mike Foley for Alan Dempsey (55mins)
