INTERMEDIATES:Intermediate county cup final took place in Martinstown under lights last saturday night as the end of the season game was against St Kierans.
Weather played a big part in this game as a strong wind was blowing down the field towards the railway line of the ground and winning the toss we opted to play with the wind in the first half.
In the first half we totally dominated the game and we put pressure on the St Kierans backs from the start with early scores from Gary Murphy and Peter Tiernan. During the half the wind was proving difficult to manage as a lot of our attacks were just narrowly going wide or the direct ball in was passing our full foward line and St Kierans were clearing these as the half wore on we did get other scores from Andrew Brennan and Gary Murphy and at half time we were going in ahead by 0-5 to 0-3.
Second half under way and St Kierans from the start had us under pressure and used the wind to their advantage and soon had our lead cancelled out and with eleven minutes gone in the second half they were up 0-10 to 0-5. The final fifteen minutes of the game we had a lot of possession and took the game to St Kierans as the lads refused to give up the fight and Dean Power,William Hourigan and Theo butler all had chances for goals but these were defended and cleared by St Kierans as with the half coming to the end points from frees by Kevin Wixted kept us in the game but it was St Kierans who finished stronger and at fulltime it was a win for St Kierans 0-16 to 0-7.
Well done to all the lads on the evening never gave up and took the fight to St Kierans right to the end of the Game.
