St. Kieran's GAA notes

September 30, 2014

The intermediate hurlers make the trip to Clarina on Saturday afternoon for the final round of the county championship where Pallasgreen will provide the opposition. So far this campaign we have had mixed fortunes with two wins and two defeats on our record. We rebounded well from a narrow opening round defeat against Monaleen to come back against Kileedy in round 2 to secure a three point victory. In round 3 we put in a strong performance against a Kildimo/Pallaskenry side that had been going well in the county league and city championship to come away with our second three point victory of the championship. We suffered a major setback in round 4 where we came up against an extremely strong and tuned in Cappamore side who blew us away on the night. It looked as if this defeat had left us out of contention for the championship but other results fell our way and we still have an opportunity to advance to the quarter final stages. There are a number of permutations going into this weekend's game. Both Monaleen and ourselves are vying for the last quarter final slot. Currently Monaleen have a far superior score difference than us. In order to qualify we have to get a better result that Monaleen this weekend. Therefore if Monaleen are defeated by Cappamore a draw would be enough for us to advance, if they draw we have to defeat Pallasgreen but if Monaleen defeat Cappamore it is all irrelevant as our score difference will go against us. Our opponents Pallasgreen have had a promising campaign to date, amassing victories over Monaleen, Cappamore and Kildimo/Pallaskenry, while the only blemish on their record came in the way of a somewhat surprising defeat to Kileedy in their last outing. Pallasgreen will be backboned by a number of members of the Limerick minor hurling panel and will no doubt be buoyed from the fact that they maintained their senior football status last weekend with victory over Galbally in the relegation play-off. We will have to up our performance to another level on Saturday afternoon if we are to get a result and advance to the knockout stages of the championship. The game throws in at 4.00 in Clarina.
County Junior 'B' Football Championship Quarter Final:

The junior footballers make the journey to Ballyagran on Sunday morning to face off against County League and East Championship winners Fedamore in the county quarter final. After two pulsating encounters with Ballysteen in the west final we face a huge challenge against one of the favourites for the championship. Fedamore will undoubtedly provide us with another step up in competition as it is their first team and a side containing a number of quality footballers. Both sides have met twice in the past two years and on both occasions things haven't gone in our favour. In 2013 both sides met in the county league final, on the night we failed to show up and play to our potential and the east champions came away with a deserving victory. Having won the west league for the second year in succession we crossed paths in the county league semi final this year and after a solid performance in the opening half we fell away in the second half as we were stretched to our limits due to the absence of a number of key players due to injury and work commitments. While Sunday's game will be a huge challenge it is one we are up for, if we can put in the same level of performance and commitment as we did in both games against Ballysteen then we will be in with a shout of winning. The game throws in at 12 noon in Ballyagran this Sunday.
