Patrickswell GAA Club notes

September 29, 2014

Junior A hurlers

The Junior A hurlers lost the City Championship Final to Na Piarsaigh, but remain in the County Championship at the quarter-final stage.

Na Piarsaigh scored three points within five minutes before Andrew Carroll struck a goal to equalise.  However, the Caherdavin side increased their tempo and secured five more points without reply.  After fifteen minutes, Patrickswell trailed by 0-8 to 1-0.  David Woulfe and Andrew Carroll claimed two points apiece as the 'Well narrowed the score at 0-9 to 1-4.  Unfortunately Na Piarsaigh were stronger at the end of the first half and led by 0-12 to 1-5 at the interval.

Patrickswell started the second half with renewed hope when Andrew Carroll delivered three points within ten minutes.  The deficit was reduced to 0-13 to 1-8 and the momentum was definitely with the Blue and Gold.  Na Piarsaigh showed composure to score another three points and kept the 'Well at arm's length.  The gap was 0-17 to 1-10 as the match entered the closing ten minutes.

Patrickswell surged forward and were rewarded with two points to Na Piarsaigh's one point in response.  The scoreboard displayed arrears of three points (0-18 to 1-12) when Patrickswell were awarded a free on the cusp of 60 minutes.  The distance was about twenty-five yards and Na Piarsaigh's defenders filled the goalmouth.  The outcome was another Patrickswell point, rather than the vital goal.  Our fans crossed their fingers for sufficient injury time, but the match concluded thirty seconds later at 0-18 to 1-13.  Hard luck to the players and management.

The County Quarter-Final against Castletown Ballyagran is provisionally scheduled for Sunday October 5 at noon.  Exact details will be known in due course.

Best of luck to our U-16 girls who play Croagh-Kilfinny at home in the County semi-final at 6pm on Tuesday September 30.

The U-12 girls had a fantastic win over Ahane in their final Championship match. Well done to Mairead Buston and Julie Darcy who had prepared the U-12 girls thoroughly in all their matches.

The U-8 All County Blitz took place last Saturday in Kileedy. The girls beat Kilmallock, Newcastlewest & Bruff and drew with Ballybrown in their final game of their group. We would like to thank Kileedy for the way they ran this blitz.  It was extremely well organised and all kids and parents had a very enjoyable day.
