County Senior Football Championship Quarter Final:
The senior footballers face a crunch tie this Saturday afternoon as they make the journey south to face St. Patricks in the county championship quarter final. St. Patrick's like ourselves have experienced a renaissance over the past couple of campaigns and have emerged as one of the most formidable teams in the county championship with a wealth of young talent amongst their ranks. Following an opening round defeat to county champions Drom/Broadford, St. Patricks have been on a rich vein of form securing four consecutive victories and securing second place in group 2. Following an excellent comeback against the odds in round 5 against Fr. Casey's we go into the game on the back of a solid group stage having secured three wins in the opening three games before experiencing defeat by the narrowest of margins to Newcastlewest in round 4 and coming back to draw with Fr. Casey's two weeks ago in round 5. Recent history between the two sides has been mixed, when the two sides met earlier this year in the county league it was the men from Rhebogue who came away with an emphatic victory on an evening in which we were short many first team regulars. In the opening round of the 2013 championship we got off to a winning start en route to the semi finals when we came away with a one point victory after a hard fought encounter in Bruff. Saturday afternoons encounter will undoubtedly be another fierce battle between the two sides in which we will have to show honesty and ferocious intensity if we are to come away with the win against a youthful St. Patrick's side that have been winning a lot of admirers for their performances so far this campaign. The game throws in at 2.30 in Kilmallock on Saturday afternoon as part of a double-header with the second semi final with Newcastlewest/Ballylanders.

West Junior 'B' Football Championship Final:
St. Kieran's 0.9 Ballysteen 1.6
The junior footballers played out a pulsating west final on Saturday evening played in excellent conditions in Colyroe against a Ballysteen side filled with youthful exuberance and pace. It is fair to say the men from the banks of the Shannon got off to the better start and were the first to settle into the game as we found it difficult early on to cope with their pace in certain parts of the field but once we got into the game thanks to an early pointed free from sharpshooter Seamus Mangan we found our feet and began to break even with Ballysteen throughout the field. Both sides fought tooth and nail for possession in particular around the middle of the field where the four midfielders had a mighty battle throughout the hour. Our chances were dealt a major blow midway through the opening half when we lost Aengus Gannon to a leg injury but it did not deter the team spirit as the side maintained the same level of intensity throughout. Up front Nicky Kelly and Seamus Mangan continued to cause problems for the Ballysteen defence as we went in at the break with a three point lead 5-2 and to be fair had we taken all of our scoring opportunities it could have been more. At the back the defence stood firm ably led by Conor O' Mahony at full back and James Morrisroe, operating as a free man as Ballysteen regularly withdrew a man out around the middle third while once again goalkeeper Tommy Quinn kept us in the game with a number of excellent saves. As the second half ensued both teams upped their level of intensity, Ballysteen undoubtedly raised their game early on as they sought to reduce their deficit and got back into the game with  a number of early scores. The game turned on its head midway through the second period when trailing by two points Ballysteen cut through the defence to find the back on the net to put themselves into the lead for the first time since the opening 5 minutes and now the game hung in the balance and was there for the taking. To the lads credit they battle hard with Nicky Kelly in particular taking the game to the opposition. Ballysteen were soon reduced to 14 men as their centre back was sent off for a second yellow card and scores from Sean O' Connor and Chris Madigan got us back into the game. With ten minutes to go the game was there for us. A late Sean O' Connor score put us in the lead by a solitary point and it looked going into injury time that the championship was ours for the taking. Alas there was one late rally from Ballysteen who broke down the field before their lively half forward slotted the ball over the bar for an excellent individual score to tie up the game. With both sides unable to secure a late winner the game ended in a draw which on the back of a keenly contested game was the fairest result on the night. The replay takes place this Saturday evening at 6.00 in Colyroe.
