Minor County Semi-Final
Fr. Caseys 3-09 Galbally 1-08
Fr. Casey's minor football team have reached the county football final after a powerful display against Galbally on Saturday evening. Galbally got off to a good start by scoring the first two points of the game from frees. It was to go all Fr. Casey's way for the next fifteen minutes though as they scored 2-03 without reply. Paudie Smith got the first point and this was soon followed up by a pointed free from Johnaton Lyons after good work by Conor Horan resulted in him being fouled. Another free by Lyons gave Casey's the lead for the first time but then Paudie Smith showed some great bravery to finish for a superb goal. Thomas Sexton then skilfully fired a second goal for the young Fealesiders to put them firmly in control. Galbally's more physical players still remained a threat however and began to power forward. This resulted in two frees in quick succession which were both converted. They then broke through the Fr. Casey's defence for a well taken point from play before scoring another point from a free. Galbally then scored the final point of the half from play to leave Fr. Casey's leading by just two at the interval. Fr. Casey's started the second half brightly with numerous attacks before Paudie Smith added a point to his goal from the first half. Galbally replied strongly however as a great move by their forward line ended in a fine goal to bring the sides level and leave everything to play for. The resilience of the Fr. Casey's team then became very evident and why wouldn't it as the men on the sideline managing this side have shown their own toughness in years gone by when it mattered most. Scores became harder to come by but it was Fr. Casey's who managed to find holes in the opposition defence from time to time. Johnaton Lyons and Pa O'Connor were both able to score fantastic points under pressure and then at a vital stage in the match, O'Connor scored a great goal to give Fr. Casey's control of the game going into the last ten minutes. Jamie O'Connor, Conor Horan and again, Pa O'Connor, were able to close out the game with great scores in the final proceedings with Galbally managing just a solidary point with seven minutes to go. It was a great all round display by a team who now begin preparations for another tough game in the county final.
