Limerick Camogie And Brian Gearys Team Up For Fundraising Drive

Limerick camogie is on a steady upward curve and 2014 has already been an incredible year for the girls in green with a first ever All-Ireland minor A title, wrestling the trophy away from the traditional superpowers Kilkenny, Galway and Tipperary on top of winning the National League Division 4 title at first time of entry with a development squad which included seven under 17s. On Saturday last the intermediate team booked a place at Croke Park with a hard fought win over Waterford and this Sunday the junior team will look to complete the league championship double in the All-Ireland final against Carlow.

Of course success costs money and the county board and players have worked very hard to raise the funds needed for busses, meals sliotars and all the other basics needed to help run successful squads smoothly.

One of the more unusual initiatives sees Limerick Camogie team up with Brian Geary Toyota in Raheen in what is literally a fundraising drive. Toyota are launching the new Aygo this month and on this Thursday players from Limericks camogie squad will begin the first leg of a journey which will see them visit sixty GAA pitches in Limerick in 24 hours over three days. The new Aygo is a funky, fun vehicle and Toyota Irelands tagline for their marketing campaign is 'Go Fun Yourself'. Thus the players have also been set a number of fun challenges to complete on the journey also. So if you see any camogie players acting suspiciously in your local village be sure to say hello and have a look at the new Aygo!

Speaking at the launch of the fundraising drive at the Brian Geary showroom in Raheen, Limerick manager Joe Quaid said that he was delighted to have Brian Gearys on board as a partner and that the model was one he hoped to replicate with other companies. 'We are aware that disposable cash isn't as readily available as it would have been eight or ten years ago and companies have to be smarter with their spend.

So a relationship which raises money for our training fund while also being commercially advantageous for the company involved is definitely the way forward' said Quaid who is hoping that more companies like Brian Gearys and main sponsor Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel will support Limerick camogie into the future.

The tour takes place on Thursday 21st, Thursday 28th and Friday 29th of August while the camogie players will also be on the Brian Geary stand at the Limerick show on Saturday so wherever you see them come say hello, have a look at the all new Toyota Aygo and lend your support to a highly talented group of players.
