Murphy hits back at Ryan remark

Galway minor hurling manager Mattie Murphy
Mattie Murphy wasn't happy with a comment made by his Limerick counterpart Brian Ryan regarding Galway's perceived easy passage to today's All-Ireland MHC semi-final.

In a recent interview with TG4, Ryan expressed the view that it was unfair that his team should have to play four games to reach this juncture, while Galway had only the one outing against Antrim.

"What is his point?" the veteran Galway minor boss asked in the Connacht Tribune.

"Our point all along is that we don't mind going into an open draw scenario at all. We play what's in front of us and we play when we are told to play and we play who we are told to play.

"If he has all these games, then surely he has no need to worry about a Galway team that only played a Mickey Mouse match (in his view)."

Murphy also felt the Limerick management were "out of line" by attending a recent challenge match between the Galway minors and U21s in Kenny Park.

"Sure their manager also decided he would come down and watch the Galway minors play the Galway U21s in Athenry. To me, that would be a step out of line.

"I can't envisage myself going to the Gaelic Grounds to watch a private game. We don't close doors, but having said that, there is a protocol there that you would hope people would abide by."

With last year's Hawk-Eye controversy at the same stage of the championship also still fresh in the memory, there is sure to be plenty of 'bite' to the Croke Park curtain-raiser.
