THURLES SARSFIELD HURLING TOURNAMENT Ballybrown senior headed for Thurles on Saturday 12 july to take part in the annual Thurles Sarsfield 13 a side Hurling tournament Twelve teams were broken up into four groups of three. Ballybrown faced Clonakenny from Tipperary and after leading for most of the match we were pegged back in the last few minutes to end level 2-10 a-piece. Our next match saw us face up to Dunboyne (Meath) we proved much to strong for Dunboyne and ran out winners on a score Ballybrown 4-09 Dunboyne 1-04 to put us plus 0-14 points in the group stage. Clonakenny went into the last match in the group knowing they would have to win against Dunboyne by 15 points to advance in the Tom Semple cup and thats exactly what they did winning by 15 points and topping the group. Ballybrown then went into the Tommy Carew cup semi-final against Causeway (Kerry) and came out on top to reach the final. We faced Passage (Waterford) in the final. Ballybrown won the Tommy Carew cup final on a score line of 1-13 to 0-04 to Passage. This was our first time playing in the Thurles Sarsfield tournament and to bring home the cup was a huge achievement. We would like to thank Thurles Sarsfield for inviting us into the excellent tournament and fixtures permitting we will be back again next year.

MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP Ballybrown 1-11 Monaleen 2-09 Played in Clarina on Friday 11 July this was a very good game of football between two evenly matched teams. Monaleen started the stronger and led by two points before Ross Griffen scored a cracking goal for us. Monaleen scored a point to level matters before Ballybrown scored three points in a row from Dean Garvey TJ O Conner from a 45 and another from TJ from play to put us ahead by three. Further points from Josh Fitzgerald Ross Griffen and Sean Healey saw us maintain our three point lead at half time 1-06 to 0-06 points. The second half saw the same pattern with points being swapped. Points from Dean Garvey Timmy Kenny 0-02 Killian Gavin and Josh Fitzgerald and 1-03 from Monaleen had Ballybrown up by two points with minutes left. A goal for Monaleen saw them take the lead for the first time since the early minutes and when the Monaleen goalie saved from a great effort from Ross Griffen and the resultant fourtyfive fell short time ran out for us but great credit is due to our lads who will be disappointed to let this one slip.
