St. Kieran's GAA notes

April 15, 2014
Scrap - Metal Collection:
St. Kieran's GAA hopes to run a scrap-metal collection within the next three weeks in order to generate much needed funds for the coming year. We will have a central drop-off point on the day where you can drop off all unwanted scrap-metal. If anyone has any unwanted scrap in the aftermath of the recent storm damage that they want to dispose of please contact Sean Windle (087-2520227) or Ivan Neary (087-6577541).

Membership 2014:
Membership for the coming year will be €20 per adult, €10 per student and €5 per juvenile. It is vital that each player pays their member as we will be strictly enforcing in 2014 that no player can play until they have paid their membership. Each player will be provided with a membership form in the coming week which can be returned at training or a club officer. By paying their membership the club will cover 50% of player's physiotherapy bills. In relation to physiotherapy an injured player must consult with their respective management and the club secretary before arranging a physiotherapy session for the coming year. In addition membership entitles you to apply for tickets for Intercounty games for the coming year.

Club/School Link:
We are currently looking for a coach who would be available to coach Gaelic football in the local primary schools as part of the club/school link. This is an extremely beneficial programme for all parties as it provides our younger players with a great opportunity to enhance their skills in advance of the playing season and also entices younger players to take up the game for the first time. Anyone who may be interested in the position is asked to contact club secretary Ivan Neary (087-6577541) as soon as possible
West Senior Football Championship Quarter Final:
St. Kieran's 0.13 Drom/Broadford 1.9
The senior footballers advanced to the West semi-final with a hard earned win over county champions Drom/Broadford on Saturday afternoon in Newcastlewest. When the two sides met two weeks earlier it was Drom who came away with a commanding victory in the County League, conditions in Newcastlewest were a far cry from those in Dromcollagher two weeks previously and this allowed for a good flowing game of football. Drom got off to a flying start with a goal inside the opening two minutes and it looked as if we were going to be under pressure for the hour. To be fair to all involved they rallied well and got straight back into the game with an array of excellent scoring in the opening period. We controlled the game for the majority of the opening half with Anthony Molyneaux and Sean McSweeney up front causing a lot of problems for the Drom defence with McSweeney's free taking in particular proving to be a major source of our success throughout. Drom came back into the game in the closing ten minutes of the first period exerting their dominance around the centre of the field in particular. As the second half progressed Drom continued where they left off in the closing periods of the opening half. We soon found our feet and got back into the game. Donal Nolan and Sean MsSweeney were causing a lot of problems up front now with Nolan unlucky not to have found the back of the net early on which could have had a major bearing on the game. Throughout the field we worked tirelessly in defence closing down Drom's running game and swarming them when they got into the scoring areas as much as possible. Sean McSweeney kept the scoreboard ticking over with a number of fine scores from play and frees nine in all throughout. As the game drew to a close it was there for anyone. Despite some late efforts we held firm with our defence proving very difficult to breakdown. The manner of the performance was very promising given that we are only ten days away from championship where Adare will provide us with stern opposition. No doubt that this game will stand to us going forward into the championship as it was played at a very high intensity throughout. We have also advanced to the West Semi-final where we will meet Adare, in the other semi-final Newcastlewest had the narrowest of victories over Ballysteen on Saturday evening in Rathkeale.

Patrick Histon, Mike Windle, James Windle, Kevin Meade, Mossie Shine, Johnny McCarthy, Diarmuid Crowley, John Doyle, Darragh Treacy, Jack Harnett, Sean McSweeney, Diarmuid Carroll, Anthony Molyneaux, Donal Nolan, Niall O' Shea, Mike Flynn, Owen Hayes, Tommy Quinn, James O' Connor, James Morrisroe

West Junior 'B' Football League Round 1: St. Kieran's 1.9 Ballysteen 0.6
The junior footballers got their defence of the West league off to a winning start on Thursday evening with a hard fought victory over a tough and determined Ballysteen side. Fielding a side filled with experience the manner of the performance was very promising as Ballysteen threw everything at our defence in the second half who stood up to the challenge admirably. With many players still to come back into contention in the coming weeks and with a number of players stepping up to the senior side it is vital that all players make themselves available. Our next game is against St. Senan's Thursday April 24 in Foynes.
Team vs Ballysteen:
