Patrickswell club notes

October 14, 2019

JUNIOR A HURLERS: Patrickswell relinquished their City Championship crown after a narrow one-point defeat to Claughaun. Our opponents scored the first point, but Cillian O'Reilly soon equalised. Three Peter Harty points established a 0-4 to 0-3 lead after fifteen minutes. The game sprang to life when Darragh Ahern hit the net from close range in the 20th minute. Claughaun added another point, but Darragh Ahern and Peter Harty responded with a point each to cement a 1-6 to 0-4 margin. The Childers Road men bossed the closing minutes of the first half and were rewarded by four consecutive points. Just before half-time, Cillian O'Reilly stopped their surge with a point. The interval score was 1-7 to 0-8 to Patrickswell.

Aaron Carmody took the first point of the second half; however Claughaun equalised with a goal within sixty seconds. The sides were level at 1-8 each. Over the next fifteen minutes, both teams struck four points each to remain inseparable at 1-12 each (Peter Harty 0-3 and Cillian O'Reilly). The turning point of the match was Claughaun's punishing goal after 53 minutes. Patrickswell were now a goal down and chipped away at the lead with two Peter Harty points. Unfortunately Anthony Carmody's men could not fashion a late chance. Claughaun held firm and won the City Championship. Hard luck to the players and management.
