U12 Hurling

Cappamore V Doon

Doon 3-09 vs 1-5 Cappamore

Venue: Doon

We played with the aid of a breeze in the first half and played well making it a very tight evenly contested half.

Doon, scored the first two points, then we responded with two points of our own, both scored by Alex Heney from frees.

Another couple of points from Doon were followed by the score of the match when Alex knocked over a great point from far out on the wing.

With Jake Slattery in goals, and with the defense Cian O'Connor, Cillian O'Dwyer and Jacob Wright working hard and clearing ball, we were beginning to get on top. All the hard work and pressure paid its reward when David Meehan got the last touch in a goal mouth scramble to find the back of the net. Doon kept plugging away though and managed to sneak a goal themselves just before half time to leave things all square at the break 1-03 to 1-03.

Aided by the breeze in the second half Doon manged to get on top as we struggled to work the sliothar out of our own half. In what was their purple patch Doon managed to score 1-03 without reply. We dug in though and battled on for the rest of the match. Alex Heney knocked over another free. Ben Ryan had moved into goals in the second half and made some fine saves.

Jake Slattery was full of running in midfield, and with Cillian O'Dwyer and Alex Heaney tearing into tackles, Doon were made to work very hard for their scores.

It finished on a scoreline of 3-09 to 1-05, but the boys played very well and showed some great skills.

Squad: Jake Slattery, Andrew Caher, Cian O'Connor, Fionn Cunningham, Cillian O'Dwyer, Jacob Wright, Ben Ryan, James Ryan, Chris Smith, Alex Heney, Leo Keogh, David Meehan, Darragh O'Shaughnessy, Shane O'Neill

and with Cathal Mulcahy and Malachy Keogh present but unable to play due to injury.

U16 Hurling Championship Division 1

Cappamore 0-18 vs 2-15 Bruff

Cappamore came into this match with one win and one draw. After a long break due to school exams and with a few missing through injury etc. it was going to be interesting to see how our side would perform.

It was an evenly contested and very enjoyable match to watch with both teams playing a great style of hurling fitting to the top tier of hurling. Cappamore were probably a better rounded team on the night but unfortunately for them 3 clear cut goal chances failed to be executed. One fine effort from Ciarán Kennedy coming off the cross bar. From goalie to full forward all played well and deserved more from this match. Brighter days are ahead for this team for sure.
