County Senior Football Championship Round 5:

This Sunday afternoon’s see the final round of group games in the 2018 county senior football championship when we make the short journey to Knockaderry to meet our near neighbours and rivals Newcastlewest where the winner will secure a place directly into the county semi-final. Both teams go into the round 5 encounter with perfect records, four wins from four with victories over Ballysteen, St. Patrick’s, Oola and Fr. Casey’s so there should be very little between the two sides on Sunday afternoon. Both sides are blessed with a mix of youthful exuberance and experience which should give rise to an excellent fast-flowing game and keenly contested game of football. Both sides met during the course of the 2017 campaign. We took the spoils in the west senior football championship semi final before Newcastlewest came away with a comprehensive victory in the same round 5 fixture last season which saw us exit the championship on a disappointing note in a game we failed to perform in. Games between Kieran’s and Newcastlewest in either code no matter the age category are always fiercely contested and hopefully on Sunday afternoon the lads can reverse the recent trend and come away with the victory and secure our place in the county semi-final in three weeks, time. Sundays game throws in at 2pm in Knockaderry. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Junior Football:

The junior footballers were in action twice during the past week and in the process secured their place in the west championship semi final with excellent wins over Mountcollins and Rathkeale in a play-off and west quarter final respectively. On Monday evening they made the journey to Mountcollins for a play-off encounter against the home side and following an excellent second half display came away with a comprehensive 3.11 to 0.7 win and reversed the round one encounter when Mountcollins outperformed us with a well-deserved six-point win. With a quarter final berth secured we made the short journey to Ballyhahill this past Sunday evening where Rathkeale would provide the opposition. Having been tied on points with Knockaderry in group 1, Rathkeale unluckily missed out on a semi-final place due to their inferior score-difference and had to make due with a quarter final place and began the game the better of the two sides thanks to some wayward shooting on our part. At the interval we led by a goal thanks to some excellent scores from Mike Flynn, Evan Donovan and Darragh Breen. The lads upped the tempo in the second half as it became clear that we were the fitter of the two sides. Darragh O’ Connors goal from the penalty spot mid-way through the second half after the referee adjudged Evan Donovan to have been fouled by the Rathkeale defence gave us a five-point lead with ten minutes to go but with the game hanging in the balance Rathkeale poured forward trying to reduce the deficit. Were it not for the efforts of goalkeeper James O’ Connor we may well be out of the championship as he stood firm between the posts late on as we held on for victory by the closest of margins and advance to the west semi final this coming weekend where we face a stern test against championship favourites Drom/Broadford who are backboned by many experienced players with county championship and Munster club championship honours at their disposal. Both sides met in round two of the championship, on that occasion it was Drom/Broadford who emerged victorious with a five-point victory in the round three encounter and hopefully on Friday evening the lads can continue on their rich vein of form which has seen them win their last three championship games and qualify for their first west championship final since 2014. Friday evenings game throws in at 6.45 in Quaid Park, Colyroe.

All Ireland Ladies Junior Football Championship Final:

All within St. Kieran’s GAA club would like to wish Roisin Ambrose and the Limerick Ladies footballers the best of luck this Sunday when they take on Louth in the All Ireland Junior football final in Croke Park. The team have put in some excellent performances throughout the year and hopefully they will emerge victorious on Sunday afternoon and make a return to the intermediate ranks. Limerick last win the title in 2010 and on that occasion, Louth were also the opponents so hopefully they can bring another All Ireland title back to the banks of the Shannon on Sunday.

Limerick GAA Development Draw:

Congratulations to James O’ Connor and Noel Galvin who were recent winners in the August edition of the Limerick GAA Development draw. Once again, 2018 has been another successful year for the club in the ‘Mackey Draw’ which is our biggest fundraiser, without which it would be extremely difficult to run the affairs of the club and we are extremely grateful for the continued support of all our members.

ADRSC Lip Sync:

Following the extremely successful Lip Sync in the Devon Inn Hotel last November ADRSC will once again be hosting a Lip Sync event on Saturday November 10 in the Devon Inn Hotel, Templeglantine. Last years event proved to be extremely successful and it was great to see so many people from the locality participate in and support the event over the two nights. All funds raised on the night will be going towards the new Astroturf facility which is currently under construction next to the school field in Ardagh and will hopefully be completed in the next few months. There are still a few places available for any potential acts and if any of you are interested in participating don’t be shy and get in contact with any committee member as preparations will be commencing next week. In addition there will also be a scrap-metal collection on Saturday October 6, if any of you have any unwanted scrap metal lying around the garden or hidden away at the back of sheds and want to dispose of it you have the opportunity to do so on this day as we will have a holding area in Ardagh and we will also have a number of tractors doing collections where required. Again, we would encourage you to please get in contact with any committee member ASAP to make the necessary arrangements.
