Kildimo/Pallaskenry GAA Club Notes

August 07, 2018

ALL-IRELAND POC FADA: Congratulations to John Chawke who finished 4th place in the All Ireland Poc Fada competition in the Cooley Mountains at the weekend. It's been a fantastic year on an individual level for John, who retained his Limerick title, captured the Munster crown and put it up to the very best in the All-Ireland! Well done John, all at the club are very proud of your achievements!

CITY JUNIOR B HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP: Kildimo/Pallaskenry 3-17 Mungret 1-11. Our Junior B hurlers got their second win of the Championship campaign tonight in Kildimo against Mungret. Throw-in was delayed slightly due to a heavy downpour but when it did start, we started the brighter; showing no ill effects from over-celebrating Limerick's great victory. Mossy Sheehan banged over an early point from distance before Kieran O'Brien cleverly picked out Stephen McKeogh in space. Stephen bore down on goal and lashed the ball into the top corner past the goalkeeper. This was followed by another green flag, Eoin O'Brien launching the ball in from distance and catching the goalkeeper unprepared. Mungret then scored their first point of the game before Adrian Garvey got his first. A Mungret free was replied to by Steven O'Brien who had a superb game; first he scored a point after good play from Brendan O'Shea, he followed this up with a great run and score. Then after another Mungret point, it was Adrian Garvey who got a run of scores. The experienced midfielder scored a nice point before embarking on a solo run and firing the ball to the back of the net for our third goal. We finished the half strongly with a wonderpoint from out on the wing from Kieran O'Brien, before joint captain Mikey Dillon launched a monster score from inside in his own half, the score of the game. Half-time score: Kildimo/Pallaskenry 3-7 Mungret 0-3.

It was a very impressive first half performance but it was no surprise that a decent Mungret side came back strongly. They would rattle off the first two scores of the half before we saw points from Stephen McKeogh and James Pomeroy, who scored 4 points in the second half. But Mungret then took control of affairs and made things slightly nervy; they rattled off 6 scores in a row, a goal from a penalty and 5 points to reduce the gap to just 5 points. It was some of our younger players who took responsibility to drive us onto victory; James Pomeroy and Steven O'Brien hit vital scores, while the likes of Jack Mullane along with experienced heads like Mikey Dillon kept our backline composed. James Pomeroy hit his second before Mikey launched a long-range free over the bar. Mungret did get a score but that was their last of the game, as we finished strongly. Brendan O'Shea scored a great point over the shoulder in between 2 from Steven O'Brien. Kieran O'Brien then hit a point between 2 from James Pomeroy.

It was a good win; congratulations to the team managed by Gary Dillon, Paudie Daly and John Maher.

LIMERICK SENIOR HURLERS: The Limerick senior hurlers now know their opponents in the All-Ireland final; they will take on reigning champions Galway after they defeated Clare in a replay at the weekend. Less than two weeks to Limerick's first All-Ireland final in 11 years, all in the county are hoping that this is our year! As ever, we would like to wish the best of luck to Kyle Hayes and Barry O'Connell on the Limerick panel, and Ruairi Maher in his backroom role. Hopefully everyone will give the panel the space they need to get preparations right!

ALL-IRELAND TICKETS: The deadline for orders for tickets for the All-Ireland final has passed. As of yet, we do not know our allocation but we expect that it will fall well short of the number of requests we have received. Every club in the country gets an allocation of tickets so if you have friends or family in other parts of the country, we would ask them for assistance with tickets. The more tickets that are brought into the club, the better, as we will be able to allocate tickets to as many club members as possible.

FAMILY FUN DAY: Our Family Fun Day is set to take place on Sunday September 2. After a great success last year, we would hope that all families will turn out to make it a great day. Can all members please return the sponsorship cards this week for the Fun Run? We are currently trying to finalise the t-shirt and medal order, so need those cards back in! Only those with cards returned will be eligible for a t-shirt. Please return all forms to Trish O'Dowd or Mary Sexton.

Any questions, contact the Fun Day committee at [email protected].

UNDERAGE COACHES: We are still actively looking for more parents to get involved with the underage teams. We have a host of children looking to play, but there is a shortage of mentors, so we are putting the call out for people to get involved with the club! We would be delighted to get more people involved and if you are interested, or know someone who might be, please contact Ger McMahon at 086 8108916.

BORD NA NÓG: Our U-13 footballers had their first match of the season during the week, as they played Mungret in a challenge. It was good for the lads to get a game under their belt.

The U-16 hurlers are out in action again this Monday night as they travel out east to take on Ahane. Best of luck to all involved!

CLUB LIMERICK DRAW: Sadly, we had no winners in the July draw after some success in the first few draws. However, there are still five further draws yet to take place this year, with a subscription costing €10 per month. The CLUB Limerick Draw is a vital factor in the success of our County teams, it raises much needed funds for all our clubs to the tune of €400,000.

Kildimo/Pallaskenry GAA are very fortunate to have a great number of young and senior players represent our club on the intercounty scene. The CLUB Limerick Draw will also help the development of the Gaelic Grounds and Mick Neville Park, to make it a centre of excellence with four full-size pitches including synthetic pitch, flood lighting & ball alley. Each month there will be 30 Guaranteed Cash Prizes with a top prize of €12,000 & a star car prize in December worth €25,000. You can play online or contact any club member below, or call / e-mail Siobhan in the Limerick GAA Office 061-335516 / [email protected].
