SENIOR HURLERS

Our senior Hurlers continue to fill the pages of history books after their latest heroics in the Munster Club Championship.

Having played 11 Munster Club games since 2011 and remained unbeaten it was all put on the line yesterday in Semple Stadium in Thurles and a 4 th Munster Final appearance in 7 years.

Waterford 4 in a row Champions Ballygunner were our opponents this time around a repeat of the 2015 final.

Our buses were full and expectations were high but nevertheless an air of nervousness reigned.

We began well and had early scores from Adrian Breen and Ronan Lynch to settle us down.

Ballygunner also began well and matched us in the early moments before they received a slice of luck compliments of the slippery underfoot conditions and a goal inside 15 minutes.

They were well on top in the first half and could have been worse but for 2 late points from Peter Casey and Adrian Breen.

We trailed by a slender 1 point at the break 1-4 to 0-6.

We began the second half slowly also and Ballygunner had 2 quickfire points on the board.

Then came out first goal when Kevin Downes raced on to a loose ball and beared down on goal before offloading to David Breen who gave Stephen O Keefe no chance.

Game on.

Adrian Breen added a point as did Ronan Lynch from a sideline.

Further points from Peter Casey, Kevin Downes(2) And Adrian Breen put us in to 4 point lead but once again we allowed Ballygunner back in with a soft but well taken goal and one that surely had to get cleared.

A severe test of character now for the lads and they answered it almost immediately with our second goal following good work from David Breen it was a toss up between Conor Boylan and Adrian Breen to force the ball home.

Our tails were now up and with minutes left a surging David Breen run ended with a bullet like shot to the roof of the Ballygunner net.

Game over and a 4th Munster crown in 7 years for this extremely talented bunch of players.

Final Score Na Piarsaigh 3-15 Ballygunner 2-10
