Hurling in Leitrim making progress

(Oldest Posts First)

I think its important not to forget the strides the county hurlers are making, i think a lot of it is down to the increased number of games at club level! Great to see progress being made by Leitrim on all fronts this year! Leitrim abú

disappointing that the fixture makers couldnt allow us to attend the 2 football games in carrick then down to sligo to back the hurlers

not the county boards fault on this one although we would like to think they at least asked for staggered throw ins

If the right people were running the GAA the game would be played in croke park

All league and championship hurling finals are finals in a country wide competition that should be played in croke park

Thats why croke park was built

To facilitate finals in hurling and gealic football at all levels and standards

lhady fair point just noticed the hurling is on the 6th, god forbid we had any dual players as we are a county who cant afford the luxury of choosing which code they play for

purely from a travelling perspective coming in from manchester on the saturday morning then back to ruislip on the sunday, it would have been nice had the hurling been saturday evening then again hopefully we are celebrating something else

Great to see Martin cuniffe confident ahead of Sundays game

Taking a similar view to myself

I expected no better from the co board tho to be honest

Setting rounds of junior league games ahead of the hurling final

Alot of club hurlers play junior football so the leitrim supporters will be lessened by atleast 50%

Anyway good luck lads pull hard

so were we only a puck away from beating the eventual Nicky Rackard winners in the 3b league final?

it would be nice to see someone from the hurling fraternity on the co board next time round

with a bit of work like the footballers the hurlers if they are to improve need to get out of 3b which will be a lot harder next year should lancashire make it into the mix

@unigaa Biggest problem is that between now and the next county team play their first div3b game is 7 months

In that 7 months there will be 6 games of hurling played by our 4 club's

A few league games left if ita even played out by all 4 teams

3 championship games and 2 of those clubs will only play 1 championship game

Now generally the way to improve at something is practise and in that you gain experience and confidence that improves your general skills at the sport

The above Rota that I've explained on small amount of games explains why we will probably stay in 3b

lancashire split from warwickshire this year across the water bearing in mind they had 10 of the 15 starters on the lory meagher winning team of 2013, these lads are hungry for getting back into 3b as a new county next year, in order to maintain things they have introduced a blitz league between 3 teams to happen at each home venue once a year 5 more games are guarunteed in our version of the tain league then local championships so the template is there for leitrim to follow i guess there isnt the will among those who are on the board, realistically if london threw a reserve team into the 3b we would never get out of it, the other thing to note here is its an unwritten rule that hurling will be on the saturday to allow dual players to participate in both codes

We would appreciate it if Leitrim Gaels could post the latest results from the senior hurling championship.

Many Thanks

Only four Hurling clubs in Leitrim. Hurling Championship is straight knock out, semi finals then a final. All played once the Football Championship is over. Carrick face Manor in one Semi. Gortletteragh face Ballinamore in the other. Manorhamilton would have to be considered favourites as they try to do a three in a row. Ballinamore will be stronger this year as their players made up the largest contingent of the county team this year. Then Carrick would traditionally be the strongest team. Also Gortlettragh can't be ruled out as they are strong depending on who they get to show up on the day... Manor Slight favorites.

So Gortletteragh vs Carrick in the Hurling - traditionalists vs purists. How will this game go - Both teams have a sprinkling of good players throughout but Carrick seem to rely on Clement Cunniffe for the majority of their scores. Should be a tighter affair than last year when Manor ran away with it
