Here's wishing the minors all the best against Roscommon this weekend. Hopefully they can build on their connacht league success. These are a great group of minors and could go far this year yet

Possible Team

For the first time in a long time I'll be heading to a Leitrim Championship game in expectation rather than hope. Below a few lads I'd say will start, positions up for grabs. These lads have been working hard since U16 so I hope they go out and prove their potential on Saturday and give us a day out in a Connacht Final

2 J Mitchell (Mohill)
3 P Dolan (Aughnasheelin)
4 D Mulvey (Gortletteragh)
5 O Madden (Mohill)
6 A McTague
7 ?
8 M Plunkett (Aughawillan)
9 K Keegan (Mohill)
10 ?
11 C Gaffney (Drumreilly)
12 R O'Rourke (Fenagh St Caillins)
13 ?
14 P Reynolds (Ballinamore SOH)
15 G Fowley (Dromahaire)

I wish the Leitrim County Minors all the best on Saturday in Dr Hydy Park. I know this is going to be a close match and Roscommon for once is definitely not taking this Leitrim team for granted, like in previous years. I reside in Leitrim and will be hoping they win, to give a lift to Leitrim Supporters

Best of luck to both teams. For the minors give it your all lads for the sake of yourselves and management who have been with ye all the way the past five years.Hope all goes well and we get a performance befitting this team.I see posters wondering why such and such isnt playing reality is this will take 20-22 players to get over the line.Lots of good lads in reserve capable of making the difference.

Has a team been announced yet?
I'd go with this team.

1.Gallagher (Melvin gaels)
2.Mitchell (Mohill)
3.Dolan (Aughawillan)
4.Dolan (Aughnasheelin)
5.Mcgovern (Ballinamore)
6.Mctaigue (Allen gaels)
7.Madden (Mohill)
8.Plunkett (Aughawillan)
9.Cullen (Aughnasheelin)
10.Orourke (Fenagh)
11.Keegan (Mohill)
12.Gaffney (Drumreilly)
13.Murphy (Ballinamore)
14.Reynolds (Ballinamore)
15.Fowley (Dromahair)

Hard luck lads you were simply beaten by the better team on the night. Best leitrim minor team I have seen for years with some very talented players coming through.

Hard luck to the lads. I do believe however the fact they hadn't played a competitive match for some time had an effect on them. A good hard club game 2 weeks ago would have stood to them. But hard luck and keep it going a lot of future senior players in the making.

Well done to the lads on Saturday. Hollow words now, and I'm sure ye are feeling ye could have won the game at stages, but it's clear that you are the first underage team to come out of Leitrim having been coached properly, and been exposed to the same training/preparation methods other counties have been using for years.

Ye have achieved plenty since U16, winning a Fr Manning Shield and a Connacht Minor League, more than many, many Minor/Under 16 panels that went before ye can say.

Most importantly, ye were part of something successful that was bigger than the sum of its parts, and ye will have all improved as footballers, which will only benefit the county and your clubs in the long run.

Here's hoping the lads moving on from the team continue working towards Under 21 in a year or two and that the lads still available next year take heart from what has been achieved and step up to lead the team.

Leitrim football will only be revived from the ground up and these lads will be leading the charge and club and county for the next decade.

Thats disappointing minors gone from championship and there was alot of expectation with them as they done so well in winning the connaught league.
Roscommon were waiting & had there homwork done on us, O' Donnell is an experienced manager, i tink E Lyons lacked that experience, that anytime a leitrim team are favourites it seems to affect them. Are many of that team still minors next year? We need to have a good management in place at U21 so as to give these minors a chance of winning something at U21 Level.

At least these lads won a trophy (a meaningful one) this year. (Please don't argue that an fbd league title is anything worth talking about ).They need to be looked after and encouraged to keep at it. Hopefully in a few years we will have a competitive team. Hard luck to all involved .

commiserations to the minor team on losing to the rossies. i felt there was too much expectation being placed on the young shoulders of these men. they went a long time without a competitive game since the end of the league and preparations weren't helped by players not being made available to play for their clubs, the best preparation for any championship football, IS championship football whether it be club or county. clubs are the lifeline for any county team and managers and players would do well to remember that, whoever was responsible for making the call for the players not to play for the clubs, it was the wrong one.

I'm not sure if it made any difference but the Roscommon minors played adult club championship for their clubs 2 weeks before the game against Leitrim (same weekend of your club championship). I don't think it did them any harm.

Hard luck to your minors. They clearly have a good team and I hope they stick at it & give the U-21's a good over the next few years.
