2012 Team of the Championship

(Oldest Posts First)

Lads thought I'd put up who I thought stood out the most throughout the senior championship. By all means include intermediate also if ye want.

1.Enda Lyons (Carrigallen)
2.Johnny Cassidy(St.Marys)
3.Pat Gimartin(Manor)
4.Shane Ryan(Melvin Gaels)
5.Paul Brennan(Melvin Gaels)
6.Clement Cunniffe(St.Marys)
7.John Mulligan(Mohill)
8.B Brennan(Melvin Gaels)
9.Gary McCloskey(Bornacoola)
10.Conor Sheridan (Melvin Gaels)
11.Emylyn mulligan(Melvin Gaels)
12.Ray Mulvey(St.Marys)
13.Michael McWeeny(St.Marys)
14.Noel Plunkett(Aughawillan)
15.Adrian Croal(Manor)

Have any new players been brought in? With the returns to form of former county players Gilmartin,BB Brennan,Maxwell and Darren Duignan it might be useful to see if any of them are available for next year. Even for experience alone to have a couple of them in the panel would be beneficial.

Kevin Conlon? did he even score from play this year? a mix of the older lads such as stephen keegan camillus mc morrow and adrian fowley along with younger players like Jamie Conlon and Cian Clinton carried dromahair this year. Other players like Niall Woods of Gort and Ronan Reynolds of Eslin had a good year and are worh a shout

Can posters please stop putting up their friends names as contenders. What will separate the chaff from the wheat with a lot of players is commitment. So before posting a players name on this tread ask one question: Is he committed enough? 20 committed players can go far especially at the level we are operating on.

OneNightStand thats probably a point better made on the County forum page, a lot of club players will tell you that dedication doesnt necessarily count for lot at club level, a lot of the time its about playing your best players, regardless of how committed they are, or in times like these when clubs are struggling for numbers simply playing who's available.

A big factor for Team of the Championship is commitment, it has been previously mentioned but players coming down from Dublin/Galway even Limerick in some cases for training during the week, going back up after training then coming down maybe for another training and going back up, then a match on saturday/sunday and going back up sunday evening/ monday morning and getting no money from the clubs for doing that

I can't see that happening for much longer not with the carry on of certain officials

Players have a passion for their home club a passion that no person can quench

It's based on past players ,family and pride

But an overpowered out of place official can put a downer on committed players by getting involved in teams that have nothing to do with them

And then the club wonders where all the players are gone

dodgypass I take your point on board and I agree. If you will excuse me I misinterpreted the forum and believed it to be people putting lads forward for the county rather than who played well in the recent club championships. With that in mind I do agree and disagree with some of the players but I did not attend all of the matches, only a fractions so some disagreement is inevitable. Side note: Is it just me or does allstar have a bee in his bonnet about an official in his club. Perhaps some therapy would help, or a forum dedicated to his problems alone.

I dont think Fergal o Flaherth should get it! he only guided manor to 1 final dont forget and they lost it!! magager of the year for me this year is a 2 horse race!!

1. Glenfarnes manager; shud of bet gortletragh in the semi final aand would have won the intermediates, huge progress considerin all they lost to emigration.

2. Gortletragh manager. no need to explain,

In fairness the soh management worked well with what they had an got to a final

So did the kiltubrid 2 finals isn't bad going in one year

Gortletteragh and melvin geals management both joint first in my opinion

Billy's winning matches - billy won a senior championship with a team that the previous year came back from relegation to win an inter championship

Credit where credit is due
