Mohill manager Padraig Davis has paid tribute to his defence ahead of Sunday's county SFC final against Glencar/Manorhamilton.

The former Longford footballer points to the performance of their defence in the semi-final as the catalyst for their win.

Speaking to the Leitrim Observer, Davis feels that you have to have the defence in order first and foremost.

"I thought we were defensively excellent against Carrick on Shannon and I said to the lads at half time I don't know how they've got to five points and I certainly don't know how they got to ten points in the end because I thought we were excellent defensively with the exception of that one goal we conceded," said Davis.

He added: "I don't believe there is any point in any code talking about your forward line until you've sorted your defence. Even though I come from an out and out striker as a player, certainly when it comes to coaching and management, I like to get that part right first."
