Séamus Mac Murchaidh ar lár

Cúis mhór bhróin dúinn go léir bás Shéamus Mhic Mhurchaidh an tseachtain seo caite. James Murphy, one of Ballinamore's oldest residents, passed away on Thursday last. James was the last of the traditional tailors in the Ballinamore area and he was still working at the trade until he suffered a fall just a few weeks ago, despite being over 92 years of age. James was one of our great Lotto supporters and he rarely missed a Monday night. As Séamus Mac Murchaidh, he featured with great regularity on the winners list. One Monday night in August 2012, his name was pulled out of the drum on three occasions. People wondered how he could be so lucky, but the biggest factor in his luck was the amount of envelopes he filled in. James came from a family stepped in history. His great grand uncle and namesake, James Murphy, from Crockawaddy, was hanged in Cavan Gaol in May 1856 for his part in fighting the barbaric landlord system. James had a wealth of knowledge on the local area and he was called upon frequently to verify details of past events in his lifetime and before. Is mór an trua nach gcloisfear arís an t-ainm "Séamus Mac Murchaidh" ag teacht amach as an mbosca ar an Luan agus an Lotto ar siúl. The club extends sympathy to his wife Madge, sons Joe, Kevan and Adrian and his extended family. Go ndéana Dia trócaire air.
