Get well soon

Best wishes to Brian Leydon who was injured on Saturday playing for our Senior team. All at Ballinamore SOH would like to wish him a speedy recovery.

Leitrim

Commiserations to the Leitrim lads that were in action on Sunday against Roscommon in Carrick. Ballinamore was well represented on the day with Shane Moran and Matt Murphy starting with Keelan McHugh named on the bench. The lads have certainly trained and worked hard over the last few months and will be disappointed with the result on the day. The lads have certainly given it their all and they should hold their heads high as they take to the field for the rest of the season.

Oughteragh Ladies -

The Oughteragh Ladies kicked off their 2016 league campaign with a great 2-10 to 2-8 win over a very strong St Francis' team in Drumshanbo on Sunday. It was a hard fought game throughout against excellent opposition and our ladies went into half time with a one point deficit to overturn, which could have been bigger were it not for an absolutely outstanding save from keeper Chloe Harvey midway through the half.

Things went a bit downhill at the beginning of the second half as Francis' went five ahead but the ladies rallied thanks to goals from Roisin McHugh and Grace Wrynn, who followed up excellently to bundle the ball over the line after it had crashed off the crossbar from a shot beforehand. Points from Leighanne Flynn (two) and Sarah McLoughlin kept us ahead before Tara Fitzpatrick finished off a lovely move to give a bit more comfort on the scoreboard. There were brilliant performances all over the pitch but Roisin McHugh, Laura O'Dowd and Eilish O'Dowd stood out in particular, really driving everyone on when the going got tough.

The game and the result was testament to the determination in the squad - along with the skill, of course - and victory was no less than they deserved. Future fixtures are to be confirmed but any support at home games would be greatly appreciated. The effort and heart these ladies show is phenomenal and they're a credit to their clubs.

Under 14 Lads

Our U-14 boys team played Carrick on Shannon last Friday week in the park. It was our first outing in the league campaign. Conditions were perfect and it was really competitive game. We were very unlucky to come out on the wrong side of the 3-6 to 2-11 score line. Both sides played great football and we had a great start going 6 points up mid way through first half. Carrick came back into it and it was very close by half time. The second half was score for score and we lost our lead to a very lucky goal towards the end of the half. Our team fought right to the end and when we eliminate some of the mistakes we will do very well in the competition.
