Money in Rushes
Ronan Sharply, who organised the annual Culchies versus Townies charity match at Christmas is at it again. Ronan who is a member of the Franciscan order based in Athlone had another idea to raise more money for the youth projects in El Salvador. Enrolling the help of transition year students from the Marist and Bower schools, Ronan asked them to make and sell St Brigid's crosses for February 1st.

The only problem was the scarcity of rushes around Athlone. Being from Leitrim Ronan had no problem in finding a solution. All though rushes are scarce on his and neighbouring farms, he was able to source any amount of top quality rushes on the other side of town!!!

Heading back to Athlone with his car boot full of rushes, the students got down to work making 600 crosses which were sold at €3 each. The large amount of money raised as well as assisting youth projects in El Salvador will also help to subsidise a pilgrimage to Taize in France for a number of the students next May.

Junior B Championship Presentation
Folks we are making a presentation to our Junior B Champions on Saturday night in Priors at 10pm, all welcome, come along and cheer on the lads
Leitrim
Well done to the Leitrim under 21 team that were in action at the weekend in the Hastings cup semi-final against Roscommon. The lads won by a score of 1:9 to 1:7 and it was great to see lots of participation for the Ballinamore lads with Luke Murphy, Peter Reynolds, Dean McGovern, Donal Feeley , Keelan McHugh and Phillip Dolan all making the panel. Hopefully the lads can help Leitrim claim victory in the final against Meath this Saturday at 14:00 and bring some silverware back to the county!

Commiserations to the Leitrim senior team were also in action at the weekend, and on this occasion they could not emulate the under 21s and were defeated by Wicklow by a score of 1:6 to 0:10. Again the club was well represented with Matt Murphy and Shane Moran in action. Its great to see so many players representing the county and certainly bodes well for the coming season.

Well done also to the Leitrim ladies were in action against Down in the Pairc on Sunday and put in in an impressive display to beat Down by a score of 4:11 to 1:4, special thanks to all the members who acted as stewards on the day.

Those attending are divided into separate groups starting with people with very basic knowledge of Irish to those with a reasonable amount of the language and those who are more advanced.
The Ciorcal Comhrá starts Tuesday 12 January in Ballinamore Library at 8.00pm.
