Ballinamore Festival

Well done to all the organisers of the Ballinamore Festival on a great weeks' entertainment and events for both young and old. It's the work of this small group of people that ensures the festival is a success year in and year out. Roll on the 50th festival next year!

Good wishes
Best wishes for a speedy recovery for two men who are hospitalised at the moment. Our former Chairman and former Co Secretary Tomás O Móráin is in hospital at present, as is Sean Flynn one of our great Lotto supporters. Go mbeidh sibh ar ais linn   go luath.

Juniors qualify for "B" Championship semi-final
Our second junior team became the club's first team to reach a championship semi-final this year when they beat Aughawillan in the quarter final of the Junior B Championship last Saturday in Fenagh. They led by 1-2 to 0-0 at half time benefiting from an own-goal but Aughawillan came more into the game in the second half. However a good goal from Brian Cafferty and a penalty converted by Paul Prior made the difference between the teams. It was great to see our third team being able to put out a strong team and have half a dozen subs as well. Game ended 3-3 to 1-4. Foireann: Darren Maxwell, Brian Banks, Patrick McLoughlin, Mark O'Reilly, Jason Kellett, Rory O'Rourke, Cyril Smith, David McLoughlin, Rory O'Rourke, Jamie Sweeney (0-1), Paul Prior (1-2 , Brian Cafferty (1-0), Sean McCartin, Shane Creamer, Éamon Walsh. Subs used: Adrian Smith for S McCartin, Freddie Walsh for Éamon Walsh.

Leitrim Ladies
Well done to Ballinamore SOH players Sarah McLoughlin and Roisin McHugh and the rest of the Leitrim Ladies who were in action against Clare on Sunday where they gained an impressive victory by a score of 4:7 to 1:12 to claim a spot in the TG4 Intermediate Championship semi-final. Next up for the girls is Waterford on Saturday 29th August at 4:15pm. Venue TBC.

Championship games
The draw took place on Saturday evening in Pairc Sean O'Heslin to confirm the quarter final pairings. Our Senior lads were drawn against Eslin which will be played in Cloone on 22nd August at 5.30pm. Our Junior lads will be in action on Sunday 23rd August in Carrigallen at 1.30pm when they will take on Aughavas for a place in the semi finals. We wish all the lads the best of luck and hopefully they can progress to the semi finals.

St Felims Minors
The St Felims Minors were in action last Wednesday against Fenagh/Gortletteragh in this years' championship. Unfortunately in this their opening game in the championship they were narrowly beaten by a score of 1:14 to 2:7. The visitors were certainly the better of the two teams during the first half but a much improved St Felim's team put in a spirited performance in the second and were unlucky on a number of occasions with opportunities to draw the game level. There is certainly still all to play for in this years' championship and if the lads can carry their second half performance into the next match there is every opportunity that they can progress further. The lads are in action against St Manachans at 7pm on Wednesday night.

U8/U10 Blitz
A big thank you and well done to all the parents, mentors and players that visited Pairc Sean O'Heslin on Saturday gone for this years' festival blitz. The sun was shining for this feast of football and it was great to see so many supporters and families there on the day to see these young players in action. Thanks also to the local Gardai for sponsoring the event and for ensuring that none of these young players left empty handed.

Caring for Conor
A special night of fundraising will take place on Friday 11th September in Longford Greyhound Stadium at 8pm. This is to raise much needed funds for Conor McGloin who suffered a global brain injury affecting all aspects of his development. It's open to all the family with family admission for €10, 11 races are scheduled and there's opportunities to sponsor dogs and races for those that cannot attend on the night. Tickets are available through John Ryan, Helena D'Arcy, Janette McManus, Joey Smith, John O'Connell and Tommy Moran. Donations also welcomed via Ballinamore Credit Union.

New Lotto venue
Tábhairne an Bhainc is the newest Lotto venue in town and we had our first Lotto draw there on Monday night. It is great to see a new pub in town and, especially, in a historic building which was a bank from the early 1890s. Good also to see it with a name "as Gaeilge" adding to the town's reputation as the town with the most Irish signage outside of the Gaeltacht. Best wishes to Ossie Costello and his staff in their new venture. Go n-eirí libh.
