Aughawillan club notes

March 24, 2015

Junior League ACL 3: This coming Saturday Aughawillan will play Aughnasheelin in Aughawillan at 5pm. Good luck to the lads, and calling on all supporters to come out and cheer these lads on.

Aughnasheelin 7-A Side: Many thanks to Aughnasheelin GAA for inviting Aughawillan to their annual 7 a side tournament. Congratulations to the our lads, led by Captain Niall Beirne who won the competition.

Corofin All Ireland Club Champions: Having being in the vicinity of Corofin at the weekend, it would seem remiss not to take a drive through our nemesis area. Immediately I was struck with the sheer scale of population of this country area, with over 820 families living in the club area, I was struck with the number of occupied houses as compared to the green fields of our own area. However, it was the comparison not the contrast of the area that filled my mind. Obviously a people of intense pride, their country area was well kept and litter free, a trait well established in the parishes of Corraleehan and Aughawillan.  Corofin Club grounds were in line with Aughawillan, established, modern and welcoming. But it was perhaps the pleasure, gratification and pride of their area which so aligned my mind to Aughawillan GAA.  Banners, flags and bunting reminded me of the glory and pride of the locals in our own area in 2014, and of the hard work and resolution of our fine young men in changing history and bringing glory once more to Aughawillan GAA. Thoughts of nearly not quite, hastened my mind, while conviction in tomorrow, left me in no doubt we will meet another day. Congratulations to Corofin GAA on winning the All Ireland Club Championship.
