Aughawillan club notes

October 29, 2014

Connacht Senior Club Championship:

Aughawillan 2-12 Tubbercurry 0-13. It was a deserved win for Aughawillan at the weekend where all involved rightfully earned their next place in the competition through the quality of football displayed, the belief in their strength as a team and the conviction that once that first ball has been thrown in, the game is their's for the taking.

A game which saw Tubbercurry fight with conviction for control was met with an equally determined and talented team of Warriors who watched the movement of the ball with an eagle eye and never once took of the pressure off, to take the ball, the lead and ultimately the scores that would win the game for Aughawillan.

Tense moments were throughout the game as Aughawillan fought tooth and nail to take the lead but it was with quiet steely determination and an unwavering response to every kick of the ball which saw success ours for the taking.

Applause from the stands was strong with a huge crowd of supporters from the area which gave the team crucial energy when necessary, our thanks to all that travelled to Sligo supporting the team and to Leitrim County Board who have given their allegiance and support fully to Aughawillan in this Connacht campaign.

Focus must now be placed on the Semi -final against Corofin, Galway and with less than two weeks to the match we applaud our fine team and encourage them to stay steadfast in their campaign of success. Achadh Mhaolain Abú!!

Aughawillan Flag Flies High: Aughawillan GAA has gone international this week with their recent and deserved success against Tubbercurry in the Connacht Club Championship being highlighted on Sky Sports. While the Aughawillan flag was flying high on the Eiffel Tower on the morning of the Connacht Club match, thanks to some of our students from Ballinamore Community School, who were on a school tour abroad. It is a noteworthy attribute of our fine young club members that even when away from home, the admiration and respect of their club is never far from their minds. While a message of congratulations from Ger Loughnane, former Clare hurling manager was conveyed to the team and met with deep appreciation that across all areas of sport Aughawillan is being acknowledged as an accomplished team with talent and determination.

Go Raibh Maith Agat: A huge depth of gratitude must be expressed to Thomas Quinn and family for facilitating the Club with logistics this weekend. They were indispensable in collecting players Pearce Dolan and Fergal Mc Tague who returned from their school tour to play at the weekend. With unwavering support and effort from club members and players it is not surprising that Aughawillan continue to be successful both on and off the playing field as a Club.
