Aughawillan club notes

September 17, 2014

Gallogly Catering All County Division League 1: On Sunday last Aughawillan Seniors took on Aughnasheelin in a game which could have seen them relegated next year. Tensions were high in Aughawillan as Aughnasheelin were out to cut their muster and proved worthy opponents. At half time the score was 1-03 to 0-05 to Aughnasheelin, while the lads retreated to the dug out nothing was surer than some determined talking by management. Aughawillan came out fighting in the second half and got the first score but Aughnasheelin in the lead were hell bent on fighting to keep it.As the score line reached 1-06 to 0-8 still to Aughnasheelin, Niall Doonan implemented a much needed save which saved Aughawillan from sure relegation. Following on from this, tempers high, steadfast determination and unrelentless fight to win saw Aughawillan group together as every team should be, with short firm passes, to score a number of points and two frees from Morgan Quinn secured Aughawillan a point lead. It was Ryan Creamer whose swift action secured a second point lead. But it was Niall Beirnes elegant point in play from the 45 yard line, which insured Aughawillan a win and kept the Senior team and supporters in high spirits. Final score 0-13 Aughawillan to 1-07 Aughnasheelin.

Connacht Gold Leitrim Senior Football Championship "Up for the Match": Leitrim GAA will be hosting an "Up for the Match" style programme from the Bush Hotel Carrick-on-Shannon this Saturday night 20th September featuring interviews with the team management and the captains from this year's Connacht Gold Senior County Finalists St Mary's and Aughawillan and a stroll down memory lane with former greats from both clubs. The inimitable Tommy Moran will be in the chair and the show throws in at 9.00pm with admission free. An evening not to be missed.

Gallogly Catering All County Division 3: Aughawillan were unfortunate to have a second game on sunday and despite an enthusiastic if somewhat pulled together team the first few minutes of the game seemed promising, with point for point being scored by Aughavas and Augahwillan. An unfortunate own goal gave Aughavas the lead and a number of wides were felt by the Aughawillan score line. Special commendation should be given to Ryan Creamer who played his second game of the day and was invaluable scoring a number of points. While Michael Prior and Ronan Maxwell were relentless in their efforts, and Fergal Mc Tague swept the field supplying Peter Prior with many scoring opportunities. The final scoreline does little to display the efforts of the team. Aughawillan 0-10 to Aughavas 3-15.
