Leitrim manager Brendan Guckian feels that his side made progress in 2018.

Guckian guided his side to a qualifier win over Louth before succumbing to Division One side Monaghan at Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada last Saturday afternoon.

That defeat brought the curtain down on Leitrim's year and now is the time for reflection as Guckian gives his thoughts.

And the manager told the Leitrim Observer that it was essential for the future to keep the current squad intact even though, a number of players left after the defeat to Roscommon in the Connacht SFC semi-final.

"The most important thing for Leitrim is to keep the panel of players that are there because they are the future, they are the best in the county," stressed Guckian.

"I know there are obviously a couple of more people who will shine in the club championship but the core of the best footballers are there and it is massively important that they stick together."
