Despite speculation over Billy Sheehan expected to take over the Laois senior football manager's job, another Kerry native is set to take on the role.

The Kerryman reports that former Kerry senior coach John Sugrue is due to be named as the replacement for Peter Creedon over the weekend.

Sugrue lives and works as a physiotherapist in Portlaoise where he has been based for a number of years now and he has had success both on and off the field.

As a player, he represented South Kerry during the glory times in the mid-2000s, before joining Pat O'Shea's management team in 2007 and 2008, reaching both All-Ireland finals and winning in their first year.

Sugrue then led South Kerry to a county title in 2015 and his experience will be invalauable to a Laois side that looked in disarray throughout this year's campaign.
