The Laois senior football championship will revert to 16 teams for the coming year.

A football review committee was established to look at the format of the senior football championship and their findings was put forward to the January meeting of the county board who agreed to the changes.

Last year, the Laois SFC made national headlines as it was found that they had gone against GAA rules in terms of relegation.

However, for this year's campaign there will be 16 teams competing and just one team being relegated to the intermediate ranks.

In the intermediate championship, there will be two teams relegated this year in order to make it an eight-team championship.
