Round 2 of the Leinster MFC took place on Wednesday evening

Longford handed holders Dublin a 3-8 to 1-9 defeat in Newtownforbes yesterday evening to record their second consecutive win in the Leinster minor football championship.

Joshua Marsh’s early goal led the hosts towards a 1-3 to 0-5 half-time lead and they’d net twice more via Oisin Kane and Karl O'Hara to secure the result that marks a first championship victory over the Dubs in 22 years.

In Kinnegad, Kildare were 1-12 to 2-6 victors over Westmeath as a 56th minute goal from Paddy Ryan ended up proving the difference between the sides.

Well-timed goals also made the difference for Offaly against Laois at O’Moore Park, where Cian McNamee and Dylan Dunne raised the green flags for the Faithful lads.

Elsewhere, Wicklow edged out Wexford by 0-9 to 0-8 in Enniscorthy, where the sides had been level at half-time and, ultimately, it was Patrick Small’s point down the home stretch that got it done for the visitors.

The fifth second round encounter in the eastern province saw Louth claim a 1-10 to 0-11 victory over Meath in Hunterstown.

Having trailed by the minimum at half-time, the Wee County put in an improved display after the change of ends and it was Brendan Cassidy’s 57th minute goal that proved decisive for them.
