Talk of a two-tier All-Ireland SFC has not been given the thumbs up by Laois captain Stephen Attride.

Speculation has increased that the football championship could be tiered in the near future, but the Laois captain feels that it should not be touched.

As he prepares to lead his county into Leinster SFC action this weekend against Westmeath, the Killeshin clubman told the Leinster Express that there should be more focus on the league.

“I think the divisions of the league system are far better competitions so maybe just bring that towards the summer time. Put more emphasis on that as a bigger competition but leave the championship as it is,” stated Attride.

“There's always big competitive games in the league and some days it comes down to the last set of fixtures, so pushing the emphasis more towards the league and having the championship earlier in the season.”
