Ross Munnelly has recommitted to the Laois cause for a 17th season.

The veteran Arles/Kilcruise forward, who won a Leinster SFC medal in his debut season of 2003 and has represented Ireland in the International Rules series, is the longest serving outfield inter-county footballer along with Monaghan's Vinny Corey and Andy Moran of Mayo.

Laois contested their first Leinster SFC final in 11 years in 2018 and Munnelly is hoping they can build on this year.

"Believe it or not, every time a season finished, in the following pre-season my biggest fear was I wouldn't be on the team the following year," he told the Irish Independent.

"I have only ever focused on what I could do. And my fear was I wouldn't get my place in the team again. My advice to players is to try and stay in that moment of trying to improve and trying to make sure you're in the team the next time it's picked, the next time it's picked and the next time it's picked.

"You'll find you have a very narrow focus. And that helps you get the best from yourself."

Meanwhile, Laois manager John Sugrue is expected to cut his extended panel after tomorrow's final O'Byrne Cup outing against Wicklow.
