Kilkenny chairman Ned Quinn has accused Ger Loughnane of showing a lack of respect to Brian Cody.

Quinn was reacting to Loughnane's assertion that Cody's reappointment as Kilkenny hurling manager for a 19th year is a 'mistake'. Writing in his Irish Daily Star column earlier this week, Loughnane suggested that Cody should have walked away after the Cats' All-Ireland final defeat to Tipperary in September.

"I was disappointed. I think Brian Cody deserves better than that. He (Loughnane) is probably looking for a reaction and I'm probably giving him one," Quinn said in the Irish Independent.

"What Brian Cody has done for Kilkenny and for hurling... What people don't fully realise is that he is still involved with his school team, he's a selector with James Stephens and yet still managing Kilkenny. The man gives his life to hurling and I don't think fellas should be calling him out like that."

Quinn described Cody's managerial record of 11 All-Ireland wins as "not too bad".
