Kilkenny veteran Jackie Tyrrell is chomping at the bit to get back out playing competitive hurling.

Tyrrell had to sit out the latter stages of last year's championship including the All-Ireland final after he suffered a stress fracture.

There was talk that he may hang up his hurl last September and follow some of his former team mates into retirement, but the James Stephens' clubman had other ideas.

"It's great to be back," Tyrrell told the Kilkenny People ahead of their opening clash against Waterford at Walsh Park.

"I couldn't wait to get back training. After the injury I took a lot of the off-season off and got the foot right. After that it was a case of going back to the gym and building it up. Since then I've been steadily working harder and getting the fitness levels up."

Keep up to date will all the action this weekend on our Match Trackers. On Saturday and Sunday you can follow the All-Ireland club SFC semi-finals and the Allianz HL.
