A Government plan to review the boundaries of some counties including Kilkenny/Waterford has been met with disdain by GAA officials in Kilkenny.

The issues were discussed at the most recent meeting of the county board after Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly has set up a Boundary Review Committee with Kilkenny/Waterford, Dundalk, Carlow and Athlone all having their boundaries examined and open to possible change.

This could have a detrimental effect on rural clubs along the county borders that are being considered and the Kilkenny GAA Board are opposed to the idea that Waterford's boundary could be extended into their county.

County Board delegate and local TD Bobby Aylward stated that: "If this happens once, it could happen again and again. This is an unique area, with three boundaries involved - county, constituency and province.

The area  being looked at concerns parts of Slieverue, Ferrybank and Kilmacow, while Piltown, Mooncoin and Glenmore could also be affected.
