Shamrocks back in action

All-Ireland club champions Ballyhale Shamrocks begin their domestic campaign against Rower-Inistioge on Saturday.

Less than four weeks after capturing their sixth national crown at Croke Park on St Patrick's Day, the 15-times Kilkenny senior hurling champions face their southern neighbours at 6:15 in Thomastown in the first round of the Kilkenny senior hurling league / championship.

This will be Henry Shefflin's first competitive outing since he announced his retirement from intercounty hurling and this weekend will also see the new rules showcased in the county for the first time - one v one penalties and the advantage rule.

Other senior matches taking place around the county this Saturday are O'Loughlin Gaels V Carrickshock in Bennettsbridge (2:00), James Stephens V Erin's Own in Freshford (3:00) and Mullinavat V Danesfort in Hugginstown (4:30).

On Sunday, Fenians face St Martin's in Ballyragget at 2pm and Clara and Dicksboro meet at James Stephens Park at 6:15.
