JJ Delaney says Henry Shefflin always led by example on and off the pitch.

The former full-back also revealed that Shefflin had a way with words in the dressingroom.

"He's a great, great leader," Delaney told Newstalk's Off The Ball yesterday evening.

"He had it all. A big man, he's quick, he's a big physical presence. Very good off the right and left.

"He led by speaking in the dressingroom but led by his actions on the field as well.

"People can talk in any dressingrooms up and down the country but when you do it out on the field it speaks volumes.

"He'd talk very passionately. On a Wednesday or a Friday night before a championship match he'd have his speech in the dressingroom and you'd want to go out and play there and then.

"It was off the cuff, it wasn't rehearsed. It was just what he thought and it came from the heart. I think that just means a lot more than a rehearsed speech."
