Henry Shefflin is unlikely to make a decision on his inter-county future until the New Year following Ballyhale's Leinster club SHC final victory.

The 10-time All-Ireland winner said recently that he wouldn't make a decision until after Ballyhale's club campaign was over, but yesterday's extra-time win over Kilcormac/Killoughey means there will be no announcement until after February's All-Ireland semi-final against either Portumna or Gort at the earliest.

Shefflin, who turns 36 next month, showed that he still had plenty to offer Kilkenny by dictating proceedings in extra-time.

"Ah sure look, Henry is a serious hurler," Ballyhale manager Andy Moloney enthused.

"Anyone that would write him off, or anyone that is mad to retire him, is mad really.

"We had him in at full-forward, we had him at centre-forward, and I suppose he wasn't really in the game. Then we brought him to wing-forward - and it suited him ... some of the points he got there in extra-time were top drawer. That one over his head, you wouldn't get it in the summer."

Colin Fennelly was also full of praise for his club and county team-mate.

"In the second half he got a point down along the sideline the same as the game against Galway (last June) - it was an unbelievable point," he said.

"Then in extra-time he came on with one over the shoulder on the sideline. Just absolutely amazing to watch ... he's the lead man in our team and we follow him."
