Kieran's captain: "We refused to lose"

April 10, 2014
St Kieran's captain James Maher says his team refused to lose Saturday's all-Kilkenny All-Ireland colleges final.

Kieran's defeated neighbours Kilkenny CBS by 2-16 to 0-13 in the historic senior hurling colleges decider at Nowlan Park and Maher says there was never going to be any other outcome:

"We refused to lose," the St Lachtain's clubman states in The Kilkenny People. "For many of us this was the last time we would play together in the same team.

"We went in level at half time but we were determined to give it our all for the last 30 minutes of hurling and put everything on the line.

"That second goal really gave us hope. It really gave us the belief that we could go on and win the game.

"Everybody on the team has made such a huge commitment all year. The lads have given everything for each other."
