Leixlip club notes

August 22, 2016

Next week's jackpot will be €7,900. Don't forget you can also play on-line (www.leixlipgaa.ie). Thank you for your support. We urgently require new lotto sellers for all areas. Ideal extra spending cash for those aged 11+. If you are interested, please contact the email address below.

Membership: Membership for 2016 is now overdue. All players (adults and children), mentors and officials MUST be a member of the club - otherwise they are not covered under the GAA insurance scheme. NEW MEMBERS ALWAYS WELCOME. Payment can be made on the website (www.leixlipgaa.ie).

Sponsorship: Leixlip GAA encourages members where possible to support the local businesses that support the club. If you are interested in sponsoring a team, or taking a pitch-side sign, please contact us at the email address below.

Senior Football: In a week of high drama, the Senior Football Team were seconds away from defeating neighbours Confey in the Championship last Sunday, before their brave comeback in the replay on Wednesday fell just short. They have another chance to reach the Quarter-Final when they face Naas in the third round - date and venue to be confirmed. The Reserve team face Moorefield in the Championship Quarter-Final on Monday evening (22nd August) at 7pm in Rathcoffey.

Senior Hurling: Our Senior Hurlers take on Éire Óg in Round 3 of the County Championship on Saturday evening (20th August) in Naas (Throw-in 6.00pm). Please come along and support the team in a match they must win to reach the Quarter-Final.

Kildare Ladies Football: Well done to Kildare stars Gráinne Lyons, Tara Hallinan, Aisling Savage & Maria Moolick, who defeated Leitrim in the All-Ireland Quarter-Final on Sunday. Their Semi-Final is against Sligo in Breffni Park, Cavan on Saturday 27th August (Throw-in 4.45pm)

Kildare Camogie: Leixlip GAA successfully hosted the Under 16 All Ireland Camogie Finals, last Sunday. Firstly Galway defeated Kilkenny in a high quality affair, before Kildare (captained by our own Ciara Harrington) earned a hard-fought victory over Carlow. The sight of a Leixlip player accepting an All-Ireland trophy on her own pitch will live long in the memory!

Handball: Congratulations to Leah Doyle, who won the Girls 15 & Under title at the Loughmacrory Wall Ball Tournament last weekend in Tyrone. Having topped her group Leah defeated Caitlin Conway 21-09 in the final.

Underage Football: The Under 16s continue their Championship campaign this evening away to Sallins (Throw-in 7.00pm). They then face Athy at home on Monday 22nd August at 7.00pm

Underage Ladies Football: The Under 16 team play Naas at home in the Championship this Sunday evening in a must-win match. Throw-in is at 7.00pm.

Teenage Camp: This week the club hosted the Teenage School of Excellence. Feedback about the quality of the coaching, and the nutrition & strength & conditioning advice, has been universally positive. Many thanks to the Head Coach, Tommy Moolick, and his team of assistants and guest coaches.

Summer Camp: Our ever-popular Summer Camp for 5 - 12 year-olds will take place next week from 22nd to 26th August. All boys and girls are welcome to come along for a week of skills, games, and fun.

Open Day: We will be holding our Annual Open Day on Saturday 27th August. Always great fun, the entertainment will include fun & skills games, bouncy inflatables, tug of war, BBQ, and maybe a surprise or 2. All the activities are FREE!

Buntús Training Course: The training course for the Irish Sports Council's Buntús Programme for pre-school children will take place on Saturday 27th August. Please reply to the email address below if you are interested in taking part.
