Kildare manager Joe Quaid is already looking ahead to the 2017 campaign.

Following his side's exit from the Christy Ring Cup last weekend, Quaid quickly turned his attentions to next year.

Quaid is eager for his charges to play in the Walsh Cup in 2017 and he told the Leinster Leader that they need to start their preparations earlier.

"We need to get back at it earlier for next year," said Quaid. "We are going to be playing Walsh Cup next year - well we are going to apply to play Walsh Cup.

"I don't know if we are good enough to play in it but what I do know is that the Keogh Cup didn't help us this year. It held us back because we were that much better that the other teams. We'll test ourselves in the Walsh Cup next year and we will have a better idea.

"There's no point entering the Christy Ring, or looking to win it, if you are not willing to go out and put your reputation, you players and the work that you've done on the line. The Walsh Cup will give us a good idea of where we are."
