Despite the disappointment of losing the Division Three final, Kildare manager Cian O'Neill admitted there were a few positives to take from the game.

Kildare lost out in the decider to a last minute point by Clare's Eoin Cleary, but the performance of Neil Flynn was something to lift the spirits.

The 20-year-old caused the Clare defence plenty of problems, scoring 1-06, 1-01 of which came from play and O'Neill was delighted for the youngster.

"It's great for Neil to have the opportunity in Croke Park to show what he can do," O'Neill told the Leinster Leader.

"He's had a really good season and has shown some really good qualities with the under-21s and now is assimilating back into our set up.

"It's great to see him make that step up. There were many other guys who did well and it's pleasing. We lost our captain and vice captain and two of our most potent attackers in Niall (Kelly) and Dan (Flynn). For guys to step in and show what they can do and really make a difference is gratifying."
