Clane club notes

November 23, 2015

Our AGM takes place on Friday 4th December at 8pm in the club - all are welcome.

Bingo takes place every Tuesday night @ 8:30pm in the club - great cash prizes on offer every week with the Jackpot now standing at 2,550. All are welcome each week.

Our lotto jackpot was won last month with Mary Weld scooping over 5 thousand euros. Draws take place every Saturday night with tickets costing €2 or 3 tickets for €5.

Since the last bulletin both our Senior Footballers and Hurlers retained their senior championship status after mixed campaigns. The footballers beat Monasterevin in a thriller by 3 points in the relegation semi-final whilst the hurlers comfortably beat Maynooth in the relegation final.

All our underage teams have now finished matches for the winter season with the majority of teams wrapping up training shortly.

Our u16 hurlers who are amalgamated with Maynooth under the Clanuad banner won the championship final over the last month whilst our u15 hurlers also won the div2 floodlight hurling league winning all their games comfortably. They will now play in Div1 in 2016.

Both our u21 footballers and hurlers bowed out of the championship in the semi final stage - the hurlers lost out to Celbridge and were missing many of their top players on the day whilst the footballers beat Raheens in a very competitive quarter final by a point before losing out to a strong Athy team containing 2 county senior footballers.

Our minors across the 4 codes certainly kept the club colours flying over the last few weeks. The hurlers won the championship shield final beating a very strong St Columbas team on the day by a last minute Robbie Hyland goal. The lads beat Celbridge by 7 or 8 points along the way in the competition which was a first for this age group which demonstrates the progress they have made. The footballers lost the championship final losing out to Moorefield in a tight contest. The camogs made history winning the Minor A Championship beating Naas comfortably in the final whilst the ladies footballers beat Moorefield in championship final last Saturday. The club would like the acknowledge the achievements of this special age group - they are a credit to all and hopefully all will progress to senior level in their codes over the next year or two.

Finally, Clane GAA would like to recognise the achievements of a few players who achieved success and county and international level over the last month. Bernard Deay won a Christy Ring All Star award, Melissa Lyons won a Camogie Soaring All Star award. Bernard, Melissa and Paddy McKenna also represented Ireland in the Shinty International series this month - a great way to round up the year for the guys.
