Ryan tipped for Kildare hotseat

Speculation is rife that Glenn Ryan will be installed as Kildare's new football manager early next week.

A county board meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday and it's expected that Ryan's name will be put forward for ratification. The Round Towers clubman commands huge respect in Kildare GAA circles, having skippered the county to Leinster SFC titles in 1998 and 2000, and also to an unsuccessful All-Ireland final appearance against Galway in the former year.

The ex-centre back guided the Kildare U21s to a Leinster title and an All-Ireland appearance in 2008 before spending five years in charge of Longford. He took the O'Farrell County from Division 4 to 2 of the Allianz League, and also led them to a famous All-Ireland qualifier victory over Mayo in 2010.

Ryan is currently in charge of the Arles-Kilcruise team that will face Emo for a place in the Laois SFC final on Sunday.

The Lilywhites have been on the lookout for a new manager since Jason Ryan stepped down in their wake of their 27-point drubbing by Kerry in this year's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final.
