Ladies: Kildare impress in Leinster U16FC

February 23, 2015

Kildare 9.21
Offaly 0.01

Playing with a strong first half wind advantage Kildare dominated this opening round championship game from start to finish restricting the Offaly girls to a solitary score, which incidentally was the opening score of the game, a fine pointed  effort from their captain Amy Gavin Mangan.

Kildare kept their shape throughout the game and even with the introduction of subs it did not weaken the team or performance in any way.

Kildare led comfortably at half time and only for some fine goal keeping by Offalys Danielle Flaherty with  a terrific penalty save in the 1st half to deny Nessa Dooley adding to the Kildare tally. Kildare continued the second half as they finished the first  and throughout the whole game scored a total of 9.21 with a single free scored by Nessa Dooley early in the 2nd half. Offaly to their credit battled on and tried in vain to get beyond a strong well disciplined Kildare back line that hunted down and nullified  any danger  clearing   their lines giving them the platform to counter and punish with well worked scores.

Kildare can be very pleased with this performance and have certainly laid down an early marker of their intentions going forward in the championship  although tougher games lie ahead. Offaly were well beating on the day but did show some phases of play that on other days would reap rewards.

Kildare scores today were   Aoife Stapleton 0.01, Kayleigh Humphreys 0.02, Aine Nash 3.03, Nessa Dooley 0.07 (1 Free), Nicole Dooley 1.03, Roisin Forde 1.01, Leah McCormack 1.00, Nanci Murphy 1.00, Katie Merrick 1.01, Ciara Wosser 1.03.

Subs used Katie Merrick  for Nessa Dooley 1st half, Allanah McLoughlin  for Kayleigh Humphreys, Lara Gilbert for Kate Coffey, Leah McCormack for Clara Wosser, Aine Murphy for Nanci Murphy.
