Ballykelly club notes

September 01, 2014

Our U13 girls opened their league campaign with a draw against Carbrury last Thursday night. This was a very exciting game and tough game with a strong crosswind. Girls got off to a good start, but then Carbrury started to find their rhythm and went into the half time break leading by 2 points. our girls started strong again in second half but Carbrury once again started to punish us. Carbrury were to take a 4 point lead into with 5 minutes remaining . Our girls never say die attitude was to pay off as they worked tirelessly to win the ball back and from there they had one thing on their mind and that was to hit the back of the net which they did with vengeance. The goal kick out was won by our girls and calmly put over the bar in what turned out to be the last kick of the game.

Our U11 girls opened their league campaign on Saturday morning when they welcomed Kilcullen into the club. There have been a few games this year between Ballykelly U12 and Kilcullen and each game has been very competitive with little between the teams. On this occasion, there was to be no change in that format. Both clubs were working hard for the cause and it was Ballykelly who would take the lead into half time. Kilcullen have proven all season to come strong in the second half and once again they did just that. Our girls battled hard and never gave up, but Kilcullen would win the second half and take the spoils on the day. There is a mu tual respect building between these age groups and all girls will benefit from this in the future. Girls are improving every week and is great to see their training regimes paying off in matches.

This week we see our U15 ladies open their league campaign with a home game to Leixlip on Tuesday evening at 7pm. on the same night our minor lads travel to Allenwood when they take on Caragh. Throw to be confirmed. U13 girls are away in the 2nd round of the league to Eadestown on Thursday evening at 7pm. Our u11 girls are away to Raheens on Saturday morning in their 2nd round league game. The best of luck to all teams.
