Kildare awarded six frees in qualifier

The black card rule was a significant factor in the high scoring returns
A startling statistic has come to light in the wake of Kildare's All-Ireland SFC qualifier win over Clare in that the Lilywhites were only awarded six frees during the game.

Now whether it be some staunch defending by Clare or referee Joe McQuillan letting the game flow is a source of great debate amongst the Kildare supporters.

Nonetheless, throughout the 74 minutes played in the qualifier at Cusack Park, Ennis last Saturday evening, the Cavan official only awarded the Lilywhites six frees.

Whether or not that is a record in the modern game, we can't be sure, but given a time when the most miniscule of fouls are frees, then there is no doubt that this is one of the lowest free counts ever.
